The MMLC is reinforcing its development team and is seeking applicants for a newly opened position as a Web Applications and Software Developer Associate. This job opening offers an exciting opportunity to join an accomplished group of educational technology experts. Together, we will work on the next generation of interactive courseware for Web and mobile devices, games and simulations, new media, and tools and resources for the expanding field of Digital Humanities.

The MMLC is a pioneering educational technology unit in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences on Northwestern University's main Evanston Campus. We are located in the thematic and geographic heart of undergraduate education in the Humanities and world languages. More about you
We are looking for someone who brings an excellent balance of creativity and technical skill, one who is both bright and motivated as a developer of new things, but also one who is an excellent problem solver both independently and in teams.
First and foremost, we are looking for someone who has not only an an eye for good design, but also has some chops in creating it. Using tools like these should be second nature:
• Basic Animation (e.g. Flash)
Then, we are looking for demonstrated expertise in the following core web technologies we use every day:
• Enterprise Java
We are also looking for experience in technologies we would like to use more in the future:
• iOS Development (Objective C)
• Android Development
We are a very "Mac" shop, love UNIX, and occasionally "do" Windows, so multi-platform experience is essential:
• Mac OS/OS X
• Linux (RHEL)
More about what you'll do with us
Our team includes web application developers and architects, media developers and architects, and direction from Northwestern's top educators. Joining our team, and reporting to the IT Director, you will focus at first on enhancing and extending our portfolio of web assets, by developing responsive, interactive user interfaces for both new projects, and as updates to tried-tested-and-proven works. Because we also operate labs and teaching centers, you will be able to witness first hand how the electronic resources you develop are actually used: you will learn what works and what doesn't and how to improve.
Over time, you will also learn various aspects of systems administration, gaining greater responsibilities not only for web application development, but also how to build and maintain of a redundant and highly-availble infrastructure that facilitates access the online materials you've helped build.
