MMLC Welcomes Summer Interns
The MMLC welcomes three talented interns to the staff: Cambrey Thomas, Yana Myaskovskaya, and Aaron Menninga.
These interns joined the summer efforts of the Multimedia Learning Center as part of an ongoing cooperation between the MMLC and the Weinberg College's Hewlett Fund for Curricular Innovation to bring new innovative technologies to the pedagogical plans of humanities, language, and science education at Northwestern.
Cambrey Thomas is working with Aude Raymond, Christiane Rey, and Janine Spencer on a series of technical and aesthetic improvements to Le franšais internautique, an online grammar text for students of Intermediate French that has been in use since 1996.
Yana Myaskovskaya is working with Slavics professor Elisabeth Elliott on a new cross-cultural dictionary that introduces Russian vocabulary on a truly conceptual, and culturally accurate basis to students, rather than the conventional introduction of vocabulary by means of English translations.
Aaron Menninga is working with Department of Spanish & Portuguese professor Patricia ("Penny") Fahey to create a comprehensive and compelling web site of visual resources related to the Spanish Civil War. Students will use the site that features famous photographs and war propaganda to draw themes for classroom discussion.
Work on these projects is ongoing, and will extend beyond the summer. Look for some of these projects to appear in the fall term.
